USC School Social Work Intern

  • Work under the supervision of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to provide ongoing, culturally appropriate mental health services to students (grades 6-12) and their families
  • Respond to referrals to address the socioemotional needs of students and provide referrals as needed
  • Lead psychoeducation groups: Building Champions (an all-boys group) and Healing Group (processing)

College Counselor

Key Responsibilities

  • Support college awareness, exploration, and preparation by educating students and parents about graduation/A-G Requirements, colleges, the college admissions process, scholarships, financial aid, etc.
  • Work with undocumented students to understand college admissions, especially aspects unique to them and their family/individual status (DACA/AB540/CA Dream Act)
  • Complete the School Profile and mid-year report forms via Student Information Management Systems (such as Illuminate, WebGrants, Naviance) utilized by colleges
  • Develop an annual College Handbook, and keep students, teachers, and parents informed through a newsletter addressing test dates, local college events, and financial aid and scholarship opportunities 
  • Share information about standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, and TOEFL, administer AP and PSAT/NMQST exams, serve as AP Coordinator, and work with the Special Education Coordinator to arrange for accommodations as identified in student IEPs/504 plans

  • The College Talk – a series of college knowledge events available to students and their families inspired by the format of TED Talk
  • FAFSA Day – a class-wide workshop for all 110 Seniors of Pathways to begin and successfully submit their FAFSA/CA Dream Act forms; 91% completion rate
  • Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships – established professional relationships with El Camino Community College, Los Angeles Trade Technical College, East Los Angeles College, and Cerritos College 
  • Access to College Success Program Development – the Class of 2018 is the first graduating class at Pathways Community School, and as such, most, if not all, the curriculum planning and college-success program has been created from scratch and curated specifically for the student population by the college counselor

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with ELD teacher to support and assist students identified as English Learners

Highlander Orientation Leader 

Key Responsibilities

  • Led over 4,000 incoming first-year students and provided assistance to 2,500 family members as they initiated their transition into university life. 
  • Gained skills necessary to perform the functions of the position, such as knowledge of academic requirements for all majors offered at UC Riverside to prepare students for their meetings with academic advisors, program components, and small and large group facilitation.
  • Designated as 1 of 5 selected Highlander Orientation Leaders to provide Spanish translation services.
